As part of Melbourne German Week, Daniel Carison, recipient of the prestigious 2018 German-Australian Opera Grant, will be performing on Wednesday, March 14, in the Abbotsford Convent. Philanthropist Hans Henkell & the German-Australian Opera are inviting you to Daniel's farewell performance before the Baritone leaves for Germany.
Promoting young Australian Opera Singers
One of the highlights of the inaugural Melbourne German Week 2018 from Tuesday to Sunday, March 12 to 18, will surely be the performance of Australian Baritone Daniel Carison on Wednesday, March 14, in the beautiful Abbotsford Convent, 1 St Heliers Street, in Recipients of the German-Australian Opera Grant gain a 12 months employment contract at the Hessische Staatstheater Wiesbaden Abbotsford from 6:30 pm to 9 pm. Daniel Carison is Australia’s latest opera talent and the recipient of the 2018 German-Australian Opera Grant. The German-Australian Opera Grant is offered by More Than Opera - a Melbourne-based not-for-profit company using the power of opera as a force for inspiration and community well-being in Australia – as well as in cooperation with the Hessische Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Germany. 
The grant has been offered on a yearly base since 2003. Its aim is to promote emerging Australian opera singers in the early stages of their professional career. These young opera singers will have the unique opportunity to be exposed to and gain invaluable experience Germany, undoubtedly one of the international strongholds of opera. It is here, to be precise in the German state of Hessia at the Hessische Staatstheater Wiesbaden, where the recipients of the German-Australian Opera Grants will be employed for one year. For many of them the Grant has been the gateway to an international career and is therefore highly sought-after.
German-Australian Opera Grant enhances international careers
Australian Baritone Daniel Carison will commence his employment at the Hessische Staatstheater in Wiesbaden, Germany, soonDaniel Carison has been chosen as the recipient of the 2018 German-Australian Opera Grant during a vigorous selection process that took place in August last year. He is due to leave for Germany soon and successful German born business man and philanthropist Hans Henkell as well as the German Australian Opera Grant have the great pleasure in inviting opera lovers to Daniel’s special performance to farewell him in the Abbotsford Convent. As part of the Melbourne German Week, Daniel will be performing with fellow finalist Alexandra Iona (Soprano). Both will be accompanied by Dr. David Kram, renowned opera and concert conductor with international experience, who is also the initiator of More than Opera.
Daniel is very much looking forward to commencing his twelve months employment contract with the Hessische Staatstheater Wiesbaden in Germany. During a one month work experience prior to his official start at the Opera House in Hessia, Daniel will also gain an important insight into every-day life processes at his new work place. As his predecessors, the Baritone has also won one month German tuition at the Goethe-Institut in Berlin. Furthermore, an adequate amount of money will ensure that his living costs are covered.

The grant will be given to an outstanding emerging Australian opera singer in the early stage of his or her professional life with operatic stage experience capable of meeting the high-quality standards of this major German opera house.The German-Australian Opera Grant has been sending young talented Australian Opera Singers to Germany since 2003 to enhance their international career.
The value of this grant (including costs occurring in Australia) is approximately $70,000 including a return airfare to Wiesbaden and a $4000 cash prize. In addition to the German-Australian Opera Grant each year’s finalists have the opportunity to be considered for:
